PM issues press statement on outcome of Garowe talks
Despite reports that the talks between federal government and two federal states in Garowe has collapsed, Somali Prime Minister’s office has issued a press statement on the outcome of the talks between 11 and 19th of July, 2015.
According to the statement, the federal government, Puntland state of Somalia and Jubbaland state has agreed on the following points
- The Constitution
Prime Minister Omar Abdirashi and presidents of Puntland and Jubbaland has agreed to safe guard the constitution and federalism system, and every task should be carried out as per the constitution
- Unity of Somalis
They have also agreed to safe guard the unity of the Somali people, to strengthen the security of the country and to unite against anti peace elements
- Relation between Federal Government and Federal Units
Puntland and Jubbaland has jointly submitted their views on state formation to the federal government and urged more collaboration and consultations on the matter between the sides.
- Reconciliation
The Prime Minister, Puntland President and Jubbaland President has called for the urgent need to convene a reconciliation conference for the Somali people, so that good understanding and agreement could be achieved
However the statement does not say anything about the real issues discussed in the talks, including PM’s demand to the states to recognize the newly formed Galmudug state.
President Abdiwali Mohamed Ali has yesterday left for Nairobi, as Jubbaland president Ahmed Madobe and Prime Minister Omar are expected to return to Kismayo and Mogadishu respectively.
The regional states have yet to comment on the outcome of the talks.
