Police swoop nets drugs and weapons in Mogadishu
GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: The Somali National Army (SNA) alongside the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) carried out a major security operation to rid Mogadishu of gangs, drug dealers and child molesters.
An intense search of districts under Banadir region including Waberi, Hodan and Dharkenley led to the seizure of illicit drugs such as hashish and the arrest of gang members armed with guns.
Somali police spokesman Abdifatah Aden Hassan confirmed to the media that the operation had nabbed civilians armed with weapons and illicit drugs.
The police spokesman further warned parents of neglecting their children who have turned into juvenile gangs, calling on them to follow up on those arrested during the Tuesday night swoop.
Mogadishu has in recent days seen increased cases of insecurity that has left many dead and others nursing wounds of varying degrees.
Tuesday’s killing of the Horseed University lecturer adds to the grim statistics of those already slain by the marauding gangs based in the country’s capital.
