GOOBJOOG NEWS|BAIDOA: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Wednesday visited a camp for Internally Displaced People in Baidoa and witnessed first-hand the living conditions of the Somali people severely affected by drought.

The President was deeply moved by the plight of the internally displaced persons and promised to “take action” and address the worsening drought in the country.

“This morning I visited an Internally Displaced Persons camp during my visit to Baidoa. The people in the camp have been severely affected by the drought. The President reiterated his government’s commitment to address the humanitarian situation in the country and called on all Somali people, as well as the international community to come to the aid of those affected by the severe drought, which has threatened to plunge the country into famine if the rains fail for the fifth rainy season.

President Mohamud was accompanied by South West State President Abdiaziz Hassan Laftagareen, the Minister of Relief and Disaster Management, Khadija Mohamed Diriye, the Minister of Defense, Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur and officials from the Federal government and Southwest State.
