President Laftagareen meets the newly appointed WFP country director in Baidoa

Southwest state president Abdiaziz Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen has today received delegates from the World Food Program (WFP) led by the newly appointed country director of the United Nations (WFP) in Somalia, Mr Cesar Arroyo to explore the situation of Southwest Somalia.

President Laftagreen accompanied by some of his cabinets held a meeting at his office in the presidential place with the new country Director of WFP accompanied by other senior officials from the UN mission.

During the meeting, the two officials have discussed the general cooperation between Southwest state and WFP on humanitarian and development issues as the new director Cesar Arroyo takes his role in Somalia.

President Laftagareen has asked the WFP to increase foreign aid response to Southwest state region of Somalia and also to enhance the humanitarian assistance in Bay, Bakool and Lower Shabelle regions.

President Laftagareen has commended WFP for their extensive work in the country and urged the UN agencies to continue their relief operations in Southwest state and the country as a whole.

The WFP Somalia Country Director stressed the full commitment and cooperation with Somalia for the success of several strategic axes of activities.

WFP operates in Somalia to address basic food needs, strengthen coping mechanisms and support efforts to achieve food security.
