President Mohamud condoles With Fallen Soldiers, Calls for Speedy Probe Over Military Academy Shooting

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has called for speedy investigations into an incident in which a soldier opened fire at General Gordon Military Training Camp in Mogadishu, killing at least three military officials.

Speaking at Recep Tayyip Erdogan Training and Research Hospital where he visited those injured during the attack, President Mohamud urged the respective authorities to swiftly investigate the matter.

He also condoled with the government of the UAE for the loss of their soldiers during the incident. It emerged that three soldiers from UAE who were conducting training in line with a bilateral agreement between the governments of Somalia and UAE were killed during the attack.

President Mohamud thanked the Emirati government for their support in rebuilding the national army.

Meanwhile, reports say the soldier who opened fire was identified as Hassan Mohamed and had previously defected from Al-Shabaab.
