President Mohamud Says Somalia Committed to Democratic Progress

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal Republic of Somalia president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has reaffirmed the government’s determination to establish accountable institutions and proceed with the planning of national elections.

Speaking during a commonwealth event to commemorate Europe Day, the President highlighted Somalia’s pledge to uphold democratic values, enhance relations, and foster development through a stronger alliance with the EU.

He further stressed the federal government’s commitment to continue its offensive against the Al-Shabaab militants and that the Somali forces were ready to take over the security roles from the African Union forces who are exiting the country.

President Mohamud also expressed gratitude to the European Union for its continued support for Somalia.

The president underscored Somalia’s resolve to enhance democracy and ensure safety of its citizens in collaboration with international partners including the European Union.
