GOOBJOOG NEWS|DHUSAMAREB: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has this morning arrived in Dhusamareb, the capital of Galmudug State on his second leg tour of the regions under the ‘Peace Train caravan.

State president Ahmed Qoorqoor was expected to lead the delegation of government officials to welcome the newly elected president. Mohamud wrapped up his tour of South West State on Wednesday with a visit to internally displaced person camps on the outskirts of the capital, Baidoa.

During the visit, the President pledged action to stem the tide of the drought that has plunged millions into starvation. “The people in the camp have been severely affected by the drought. I am indeed saddened but I also pledged to take action. We will work with all partners to address the drought effectively,” the president said.

Sources have also indicated that the President is keen on mending fences with the Federal Member State leaders, especially those who fiercely opposed him during the Mohamed Farmaajo administration. South West state president Abdiasis Lafta Gareen, a staunch supporter of Farmaajo was opposed to Mohamud and even ensured no politicians allied to the opposition party UPD headed by Mohamud were elected either as MPs or Senators.

Qoorqoor, alongside his HirShabelle counterpart Ali Gudlawe were both opposed to Mohamud. By reaching out to his political opponents, the President is not only seeking to bring them on his side but also diminish the influence of Farmaajo in the regional states.
