President Mohamud hosts Guterres and diplomats for Iftar

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal Government of Somalia president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud yesterday hosted the Secretary General of the United Nations António Guterres alongside diplomats working in the country for an Iftar.

The president thanked the international partners for supporting the Federal Government of Somalia’s development projects and presented to them the various achievements made so far in security, strengthening government institutions, debt relief, infrastructure, and education among other successes.

The UN Secretary-General who is on a two-day visit to Somalia toured Baidoa yesterday where he assessed the humanitarian crisis caused by drought and war in the area.

“Somalia is currently facing the worst drought in history and I pray that rains will continue so that it can alleviate the problems caused by drought in the country,” he said.

Mr. Guterres, said he will make an appeal to the global community to respond to the humanitarian needs of the people of Somalia.
