President Mohamud Lauds Somali Legislators for Approving Constitutional Amendments

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal Government of Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has commended the bicameral parliament for approving amendments to the first four chapters of the Constitution after several weeks of review.

“Today marks a significant day for state-building in Somalia, the completion of the constitution is a huge improvement for the country’s democratic, independence, and sovereignty, I urge the members of the parliament to continue in reviewing, amending and completing the remaining chapters of the constitution,” President Mohamud said.

President Mohamud, who had prioritized the revision and completion of the constitution since assuming office in 2022, commended the bicameral parliament for its decisive action.

The passage of these amendments represents a fulfillment of one of President Mohamud’s key pledges, marking a significant stride towards consolidating democracy, independence, and sovereignty in Somalia.

On his part, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre also welcomed the approval of the first 4 chapters of the Constitution and urged the parliament to continue their work and finalize the remaining chapters.

The Prime Minister also pointed out that the completion of the constitution is good for every Somali person and it was one of his government’s priorities to work in the process of completing the constitution.
