President Mohamud meets Italian Prime Minister in Addis Ababa

GOOBJOOG NEWS | ADDIS ABABA: Federal Republic of Somalia president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud yesterday held a meeting with the Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Addis Ababa Ethiopia.

The meeting came ahead of the planned tripartite consultation between the leaders of Somalia, Ethiopia, and Italy where President Mohamud is expected to brief his counterparts on the country’s counter-terrorism plan and appeal for more assistance in stabilizing Somalia.

President Mohamud said that the first phase of the war against the Al-Shabaab terrorists has been successful and that the second phase of the operation which will be carried out with assistance from neighboring countries will begin soon, adding that the terrorism poses a threat to the entire Horn of Africa region.

Prime Minister Meloni on her part praised the Federal Government of Somalia for its efforts in fighting terrorism and restoring peace and stability in the country saying Italy will continue supporting Somalia’s counter-terrorism efforts and at the same time assist in rebuilding the country.
