President Mohamud Promises Free University Education for Top High-School Graduates

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has met Somalia’s 10 highest-performing high-school graduates and pledged greater support for talented students seeking to continue their education.

The president hosted the students in Mogadishu and congratulated them on their performance in the national Grade 12 examinations, praising their hard work, perseverance and academic achievement.

President Mohamud encouraged the students to continue their studies and said the government would provide free university education inside Somalia for students who wish to pursue higher education in the country.

The president also announced plans for a new public university specialising in technology, aimed at expanding access to higher education and preparing Somali young people for careers in science, technology and other modern fields.

The proposed university is part of wider government efforts to strengthen Somalia’s education system and develop skills needed for the country’s economic and technological development.

The meeting with the top-performing students was also intended to encourage academic excellence among Somali young people, with the government presenting education as an important investment in the next generation.

The announcement comes as Somalia seeks to expand higher education opportunities while strengthening institutions capable of producing the skills needed to support the country’s reconstruction and economic growth.
