Puntland Polls Body Assures of Transparency in Tuesday District Council Elections

GOOBOOG NEWS/GAROWE: Puntland Electoral Commission (PEC) has assured opposition political associations that the upcoming district elections with be fair.

Following a meeting with the leaders of Mideeye, Mustaqbal, SINCAD, Ifiye, RUNCAD and Labour, PEC said all the issued raised were addressed.

“At the meeting, they discussed how the three districts of Garowe, Dangorayo and Godobjiran could hold free and fair elections. Also, the parties and the committee discussed concerns expressed by some political parties and reached an agreement between the two sides,” said the commission said in a statement.

District elections are expected to take place in Garowe, Dangorayo and Dodobjiran on Tuesday following the suspension of the exercise in the three districts during the main district council elections last year.

Meanwhile the elections Complaints Committee Sunday elected Farxiya Yuusuf Hirsi as chairperson and Abdirahman Abdillahi Jaamac as the deputy.

PEC also dispatched the electoral teams to Dangorayo and Godobjan on Sunday ahead of the electoral exercise on Tuesday.
