Regional spy chief killed in IED attack in Galmudug

GOOBJOOG NEWS|GALMUDUG: The regional director of intelligence in Galmudug has been killed in an IED attack adding to an increasing number of senior security officials who have been killed in the region in recent months.

Abdirashid Abdinur Qooje (pictured) who heads the National Intelligence and Security Agency in Galmudug region died on the spot after the vehicle he was travelling in ran into an improvised explosive device (IED).

The incident happened Eldhere located between Guriel and Dhusamamareb. At least four other people among them Qooje’s bodyguards are reported to have died.

Barely three months ago, senior officers from the special force Danab were killed during a bomb attack at a stadium in Dhusamareb ahead of the Prime Minister Mohamed Roble’s arrival.

The militant group Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for today’s attack.
