Revenge Motivated Fatal Shooting Leaves two Elders Dead and Six Others Injured in Abdudwak Town
At least two elders killed and six others injured in drive-by shooting attack in Abduwak town of Galmudug state. The attack happened on Wednesday at about 7:30PM local time, as the elders were preparing to start a planned meeting. Assailants managed to escape.
“Armed men riding luxury car approached the elders and fired indiscriminately, killing two elders on spot and injuring seven others” said elder Ahmed Hassan, who spoke to Goobjoog news.
“The attackers carried out the shooting for revenge. Three months ago, the head of Abudwak police station colonel Farah Warsame killed and the attack is related to that incident” Says, elder Ahmed Hassan.
The attack is widely condemned by the residents and Galmudug state government.
Education minister of Galmudug satate, Sheikh Ibrahim Guriye described the incident as despicable and unacceptable. “They killed the elders in savage way. What we know is that they killed the elders on basis of revenge, but we also suspect other motives” said the minister.
Inter-clan conflicts are frequented in Galgadud region but killings elders is seen as break with traditions and tribal laws.
