Russia Congratulates Somalia on its Election as Non-Permanent Member to UN Security Council
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOSCOW: Russia Sunday congratulated the Federal Republic of Somalia on its election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
While delivering the congratulatory message, Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova elaborated Somalia’s pivotal role in the international institution.
“I wish all the best to Somalia, because it will be a very difficult task as we live in a dramatic historical period, but nevertheless, I am sure that your country will do its best to complete this task,” the spokeswoman said.
The Spokeswoman wished the country well as it assumes the crucial role on the Security Council adding that Somalia’s new role will contribute to global efforts to foster international cooperation and achieve global stability and security.
The election of Somalia as a non-permanent member of the Security Council is a qualitative addition to its efforts to strengthen its role on the international scene and contribute to the discussion and resolution of pressing global issues.
Non-permanent Security Council membership gives elected countries the opportunity to participate in the adoption of important resolutions related to international peace and security for a period of two years.
