S. West state assembly approves 15 new members to polls committee
South State assembly Saturday voted in 15 new members to the state presidential election committee to replace those who quit early in the month.
Out of the 132 legislators present in the assembly today, 132 of them voted in favour of the new team while two members filed a contrary opinion as two abstained.
The approval of the new team follows the postponement of the polls Thursday to November 28.
The chairman of the committee and 14 other members tendered their resignation two weeks ago claiming interference from the federal government. State president Sharif Sheikh Adan followed suit a day later and withdrew from the race.
At least 10 candidates among them former Intelligence chief Hussein Ali Hussein and ex-Al-Shabaab number two Muktar Robow are contesting for the state’s senior most office.
