Second phase of the war against Al-shabaab to begin soon, PM Barre says

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal Republic of Somalia’s Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre has said that preparations for the second phase of the war against the Al-shabaab militants are almost complete.

The Prime Minister said that the second phase will take a much shorter period because the government security agencies had prepared adequately and gathered the necessary information.

“At least ten thousand soldiers have been prepared, equipped, and ready to go to war. The militants who remained in the Galmudug and Hirshabelle regions will be eliminated before the war heads to the Southwest and Jubbaland,” PM Barre said.

Prime Minister Hamza Barre called upon the Somali people to support the government’s efforts to eliminate the militants from all parts of the country.

The National Security Council meeting yesterday, which was chaired by the President focused on the completion of the first phase and the preparations for the second phase.
