Storyline:National News
Sharif Hassan Sheikh Adan has resigned as president of South West state and quit the state presidential race set for November 17 following a fierce political battle with the federal government.
Adan announced his resignation accompanied by Federal Interior Minister Abdi Sabriye in Baidoa ending week-long stand-off that saw the state presidential election committee resign barely ten days into the elections.
The long time serving politician and political maverick will be replaced by state assembly Abdulkadir Sharif Sheikhuna Maye in acting capacity ahead of the elections.
The Federal Government Tuesday maintained the elections will continue despite resignation of more than half of the members of the electoral committee.
