Six journalists detained over video of South Sudan President wetting himself
GOOBJOOG NEWS|JUBA: Six journalists have been arrested in South Sudan as a result of a viral video of President Salva Kiir that was leaked, according to several media outlets and watchdog organizations.
The journalists are under investigation for allegedly leaking a video clip widely circulated on social media, which appeared to show the 71-year-old president urinating on himself while launching a road project in December.
Five of the journalists were reportedly taken into custody on Tuesday and one on Wednesday, according to Patrick Oyet, the president of the South Sudanese Union of Journalists.
The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), however, has called for the immediate and unconditional release of the journalists, saying that they should be allowed to work without further intimidation or threat of arrest.
