Storyline:National News, Security
A convoy of Somali National Army and Galmudug state Forces was hit by a landmine and three soldiers injured this morning in the outskirts of Dhusamareb.
Military sources in the area told Goobjoog News the landmine destroyed one of the technicals. The source declined to mention the number of deaths but said ‘some soldiers may have died’.
The convoy of 11 vehicles was part of an offensive jointly by the federal and state forces in the region to battle the militant group Al-Shabaab. The incident happened in Miirdugul location some 30 kilometers south east of Dhusamareb where the militants have displaced locals in recent weeks.
Other sources in the town said the militants were making headway into the capital Dhusamareb ‘and not waiting for the military to take the fight to them in El-buur.’ The militants still hold tight control of El-buur and is their major base in the central regions.
Today’s attack is the latest in a series of clashes between the militants and Somali forces in the recent weeks. Similar fighting happened last week in the outskirts of Dhusamareb.
