SNA foil attack on Dinsoor army base, kill 7 Al-Shabaab fighters
GOOBJOOG NEWS/BAIDOA: A planned attack by Al-Shabaab on an army base in Dinsoor town was nibbed in the bud after the Somali National Army (SNA) backed by the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) engaged the fighters in a fierce shoot-out resulting in deaths and injuries.
SNA, together with its allied forces, killed seven members of the terrorist group in the foiled Monday attack in the southern part of the country.
Speaking to Radio Mogadishu, SNA commanders confirmed that the militants had attempted to launch an assault on the Dinsoor army base, but were gallantly repulsed by SNA troops and ATMIS soldiers.
“Somali National Army and ATMIS forces in Dinsoor town of Bay region on Monday repulsed an attack on Army base by al-Shabab and killed seven terrorists,” the state-owned radio reported.
Yesterday’s attempted attack on the Dinsoor military base hosting Ethiopian soldiers follows a series of attacks on the base despite heavy security presence, with the extremists said to be scaling their attacks as elections near fever pitch.
