SNA Forces Kill At Least 47 Al-Shabaab Militants in Cental Somalia

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The federal government of Somalia has said the national army Saturday killed at least 47 Al-Shabaab militants, and wounded several others in a foiled terror attack on a military base in central Somalia.

According to the information ministry, the militants attempted to attack the army base in Eldher district, Galgadud region by detonating explosives and opening fire.

The statement from the ministry said the national army responded, inflicting heavy casualties on the militants who retreated after being overpowered.  

In response to the attack, the Turkish government said it condemns the attack and stands firmly with the federal government of Somalia in its fight against terrorism.

“We strongly condemn this heinous terrorist attack and wish Allah’s mercy upon those who lost their lives. We extend our condolences to their families and to the friendly and brotherly people and Government of Somalia and wish a speedy recovery to the wounded. Türkiye will continue to stand by Somalia in its fight against terrorism,” The Turkish foreign ministry stated in a statement.

This comes as the federal government intensifies its operations on the Al-Shabaab militants and continues to stabilize several regions as it prepares to take over security responsibilities from the African Union forces who are continuing with its drawdown.
