SNA kill 5 Al-Shabaab militants in Lower Shebelle

GOOBJOOG NEWS | LOWER SHEBELLE: The Somalia National Army have killed five Al-Shabaab militants and injured three others in Lower Shebelle, army sources say.

According to Major Nur Mohamed Gaboow who was in charge of the operation the army also conducted similar operations in Awdheegle, Johar and Aybutey where the Al-Shabaab militants were hiding.

The Somalia National Army over the past months has launched a series of operations across the country targeting Al-Shabaab bases with the aim of pacifying all areas previously controlled by the militants.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has rallied the Somali people behind the army, urging them to provide necessary assistance to security forces to enable them defeat the militants saying his government will win the war and restore peace and stability in Somalia.

Several attempted attacks have been thwarted by the country’s security agents as the militants who are under increasing pressure from the military attempt to launch attacks on security personnel, military bases, government installations and civilian targets.

On Monday, Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) said it had foiled a complex Al-Shabaab attack in Mogadishu’s peace garden.

According to a statement from Somalia’s ministry of information, the army seized explosive vests and a Bajaj motorcycle intended for use in the attack.
