GOOBJOOG NEWS|GALGADUD: Government forces repelled an attack by Al-Shabaab on the recently liberated town of Osweyne in southern parts of Mudug.

Military sources said the militants stormed the town which was captured by Somali National Army on Tuesday but were repulsed by the government forces who were within the vicinity.

Heavy fighting reportedly took place but the forces managed to push out the militants. On Friday, the SNA wrested control of the historic El Buur town which has been under the control of Al-Shabaab since 2017.

The capture of El Buur is seen as a major victory for the government forces as it cuts off key revenue base for the militants.
