Somali Embassy in Serbia redoubles efforts to rescue Somalis trapped in war-torn Ukraine
GOOBJOOG NEWS/BELGRADE: The Somali Embassy in Belgrade has said it has made significant efforts to provide Consular services to Somali citizens affected by the war in Ukraine and to rescue Somali citizens stranded at the border between Ukraine and Poland.
The Somali Embassy stated that it was acting on the instructions of the JFS Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure the safety of Somali citizens trapped in the war-torn country that has entered into the sixth day of war with its neighbor, Russia.
The Somali Embassy in Belgrade has named the following citizens, who have been rescued and are now in Poland:
1. Mustafe Abdul Dahir is a student studying in Ukraine and is from Galkayo District in Mudug Region.
2. Abdullahi Hussein Mursal hails from Waberi District in Banadir Region.
3. Anwar Ahmed Aden, a resident of the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, is from Yaqshid district in Benadir region.
The rescue efforts come amid online outrage over claims that Africans were facing racial discrimination while trying to evacuate to safety.
