Planes carrying food aid land in Hiiraan region
GOOBJOOG NEWS|HIIRAAN: Following an order issued by the Somali Prime Minister on the need to provide emergency food aid to the people of Hiiraan greatly affected by drought, four planes carrying relief aid have touched down in the towns of Beletweyne and Buulaburte in Hiiraan region.
In a meeting with the Somali clergy in Mogadishu yesterday, Prime Minister Hamza urged the clerics to take the initiative in aiding the people of Hiiraan, particularly the most recent victims whose houses were razed and wells blown up by Al-Shabaab.
Due to the ongoing devastating drought, Mahas district hospital in Hiiraan region, Hirshabelle state is grappling with an overflow of a huge number of children and adults battling malnutrition, with the food aid expected to provide the much-needed relief for the people.
The Chairman of the Disaster Management Authority, Mohamud Macallin Abdullahi, with the assistance of representatives from the Prime Minister’s Office, including the Permanent Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office, Mohamed Abukar Zubeyr and the manager of the emergency operation Abdifatah Abdinur.
