Somali Government to Appoint Women to the Judiciary

The Attorney General Ahmed Dahir has said that Somalia women would be accommodated in the judiciary, and that his office would soon appoint 15 attorneys, 7 of which would be women.
He was addressing women’s day celebrations in Mogadishu where speaker after speakers raised the challenges faced by women in the country, this includes gender equality in the government positions.
“The role of women in the judiciary is missing, I promise that they would be accommodated from now on, I can tell you that you would see women attorneys who would defend the rights of women in this month end, we would also deploy some to the regions” said the Attorney General.
It’s the first time such plans are revealed by the government.
