GOOBJOOG NEWS | DHUSAMAREB: Somalia’s political leaders have gathered in Dhusamareb for the inauguration of Galmudug’s newly elected leader, Liban Ahmed Hassan, in a ceremony expected to bring together senior federal and regional officials as well as foreign representatives.

Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre arrived in the regional capital alongside the leaders of Hirshabelle, South West and North Eastern states to attend the swearing-in ceremony.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is also expected to travel to Dhusamareb to take part in the event, according to the Somali source statement.

Preparations for the inauguration have been under way in the city, which serves as the administrative capital of Galmudug, with delegations from the federal government, regional administrations and foreign countries arriving ahead of the ceremony.

Liban was elected Galmudug leader on October 22, securing 72 votes out of 89 cast by members of the regional parliament. His election marked a change in leadership in a state that occupies a strategic position in central Somalia.

The inauguration comes as federal and regional authorities continue to navigate political and security challenges, including coordination over governance, constitutional arrangements and the fight against Al-Shabaab.

The ceremony is expected to formally usher in Liban’s administration, although the immediate priorities and policy direction of his government have yet to be outlined in the information released.
