Federal Delegations Arrive in Dhusamareb Ahead of Galmudug Leadership Inauguration
GOOBJOOG NEWS | DHUSAMAREB: Senior Somali federal officials, lawmakers and regional leaders have continued arriving in Dhusamareb ahead of Thursday’s inauguration of Galmudug’s new leadership, led by Liibaan Ahmed Hassan and his deputy.
The latest delegation was led by the Second Deputy Speaker of Somalia’s Upper House, Abdullahi Ali Hirsi (Timacadde), and included federal cabinet ministers, senators and other officials.
The delegation was received at Dhusamareb airport by Galmudug officials, including Deputy Leader Abdiweli Ibrahim Adan (Garyare). Timacadde and his delegation later met Hassan, who thanked them for attending the ceremony and supporting the new administration.
Banadir Regional Governor Hassan Mohamed Hussein (Muungaab) also arrived in the city, describing the inauguration as a historic event for Galmudug.
Galmudug is one of Somalia’s federal member states and occupies a strategic position in the country’s central region. Its administration plays a key role in local governance, security coordination and efforts to address challenges posed by Al-Shabaab, which maintains a presence in parts of central Somalia.
The leadership transition comes as Somalia continues to navigate relations between the federal government and member states over political arrangements, constitutional changes, security responsibilities and the distribution of powers under the federal system.
The presence of federal lawmakers, ministers and regional officials at the ceremony highlights the national political significance attached to the transition, although the immediate focus remains on the formal inauguration of the new leadership.
The ceremony is expected to take place in Dhusamareb on Thursday, bringing together representatives from the federal government and other regional administrations.
