President Mohamud Attends EAC Summit on Eastern DRC Conflict
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal Republic of Somalia president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud Wednesday participated in the 26th Extraordinary Summit of East African Community (EAC) Heads of State, which focused on the escalating conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
In his remarks during the summit which brought together regional leaders to discuss the crisis, President Mohamud expressed Somalia’s deep concern over the situation in the DRC and urged all conflicting parties to cease hostilities unconditionally and return to the negotiating table.
The president emphasized the importance of protecting civilian areas and diplomatic missions in accordance with international law and human rights principles.
The EAC leaders at the summit agreed to convene an urgent joint meeting with the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to discuss a coordinated response to the ongoing conflict in the DRC.
