Somalia Unveils Four-Year Strategy for Reconstruction and Housing
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Federal Government of Somalia is moving to strengthen planning for public infrastructure, reconstruction and housing under a new four-year strategy aimed at guiding government priorities and improving coordination in a country still rebuilding after decades of conflict.
The Ministry of Public Works, Reconstruction and Housing has opened a meeting in Mogadishu to validate its strategic plan for 2026–2029, which will set the direction for its activities and development priorities over the coming years.
The meeting was opened by Ayan Ali Adan, the ministry’s acting director-general and director of administration and finance, as officials reviewed the framework intended to guide the ministry’s responsibilities.
The strategy is expected to provide a coordinated approach to public works, reconstruction and housing, sectors considered important to Somalia’s economic recovery and long-term development.
Somalia continues to face major infrastructure challenges following decades of conflict, with damaged roads, inadequate public facilities and limited access to affordable housing affecting communities across the country.
Rapid urbanisation and displacement have also increased pressure on housing and basic services, particularly in Mogadishu and other major towns where growing populations have stretched existing infrastructure.
The ministry’s proposed strategy seeks to establish clearer priorities for its operations over the next four years, providing a framework for planning and implementing projects within its mandate.
The meeting forms part of broader efforts to improve institutional planning and strengthen the government’s capacity to coordinate reconstruction and development activities.
