Somali President Urges Immediate Ceasefire in South Sudan Amid Escalating Crisis

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has called for an immediate end to hostilities in South Sudan, reaffirming Somalia’s steadfast commitment to regional peace and stability.
Speaking at the 43rd Extraordinary Virtual Assembly of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), President Mohamud stressed the urgent need for de-escalation and dialogue to prevent further turmoil in the country.
“Somalia unequivocally calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities, de-escalation, and a return to dialogue. Peace and stability must be prioritized to safeguard the future of the South Sudanese people,” he declared.
The IGAD summit gathered regional leaders to strategize on preventing further deterioration of South Sudan’s security and political crisis. President Mohamud reiterated Somalia’s unwavering support for diplomatic solutions and urged all parties to engage in meaningful dialogue to restore stability.
As an active IGAD member, Somalia continues to play a crucial role in regional peace efforts, advocating for diplomacy and cooperation to resolve conflicts across the Horn of Africa.
