Somali, U.S Forces Conduct Ground, Air Offensives Against Al-Shabaab in Central Somalia
GOOBJOOG NEWS|MUDUG: Somali forces with the backing of the US army carried out a series of operations in Mudug regions as the Federal Government says it is wrapping up the joint military operations in central parts of the country which have been going on for over a year.
Multiple sources and government news outlets said that U.S Africa Command (AFRICOM) launched airstrikes against Al-Shabaab targets in part of Mudug as government forces mounted ground attacks.
The operations come a day after the Federal Government and AFRICOM announced that a senior Al-Shabaab militants, Macalin Ayman who has been linked to several attacks in Somalia and Kenya was killed in an airstrike in Jilib, Middle Juba region last Sunday.
The Federal Government said Friday it was winding up operations in central Somalia ahead of the second phase which targets the southern states of Jubaland and South West.
