GOOBJOOG NEWS | DJIBOUTI CITY: Somalia and Djibouti have discussed ways to deepen their political and strategic cooperation during talks between Somali parliamentary speaker Abdulqadir Mohamed Nur and Djibouti President Ismail Omar Guelleh.

The meeting took place at the presidential palace in Djibouti City on Monday, during a visit by Nur and a delegation of Somali lawmakers.

According to a statement from the Somali parliament, discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation between the two countries.

Nur said the relationship extended beyond conventional diplomatic ties, describing it as rooted in the shared identity and common destiny of the two populations. He said the longstanding bonds between Somalia and Djibouti were important to peace, stability and development in both countries.

Djibouti has been a key regional partner in Somalia’s efforts to restore stability, contributing troops to successive African Union-led missions and supporting operations against Al-Shabaab.

The two countries also cooperate through regional organisations, including the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) and the East African Community, which Somalia joined in 2024.
