Somalia Army Chief Pledges Action to Restore Key Baardheere Bridge
GOOBJOOG NEWS | BAARDHEERE: Somalia’s Army Commander for the Land Forces, Brigadier General Sahal Abdullahi Omar, has pledged action to restore the damaged bridge in Baardheere, Gedo region, after inspecting the structure during a visit to the town.
The commander, who is in Baardheere on official duties, inspected the bridge and assessed the condition of the river running through the town, including communities living along both banks.
Local officials briefed the commander and accompanying officers on security conditions and basic needs in the area, as well as concerns over the impact of possible flooding.
Omar said addressing the challenges facing the area would be a priority, with the rehabilitation of the bridge receiving particular attention.
The Baardheere bridge is an important link between communities on opposite sides of the river and is used by residents and vehicles travelling through the area. Its current condition has left the crossing out of service, disrupting movement and making access to essential services more difficult.
The inspection comes amid warnings of potentially heavy flooding in parts of Somalia, increasing concern among communities living along major rivers.
The commander was accompanied by the commander of the 36th Brigade of the 43rd Division, Colonel Osman Sheikh Abdi, as well as Baardheere district officials and the manager of Baardheere airport, Jama Ali Hirey.
The officials also reviewed security and humanitarian conditions along the river and discussed the immediate needs of communities in the area.
