Somalia Completes Training Programme for Senior Army Officers
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia has completed a training programme for officers of its national armed forces, as efforts continue to strengthen military skills, leadership and professional standards within the army.
The closing ceremony in Mogadishu was presided over by the commander of the Somali National Armed Forces, Brig Gen Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamud.
Senior military officials, including Ground Forces Commander Gen Sahal Abdullahi Omar and Training and Doctrine Command Commander Gen Ahmed Isse Ahmed, attended the ceremony alongside Brig Gen Elio Manes, commander of the European Union Training Mission in Somalia.
The officers completed their training at the Brig Gen Dhagabadan Training School, where the programme focused on professional knowledge, military skills and leadership.
The training comes as Somalia continues efforts to build a more capable and professional national army, with the quality of its officers seen as important to improving command, discipline and operational effectiveness.
For Somalia, strengthening military institutions is also part of the longer-term effort to take greater responsibility for national security as international military support evolves.
The challenge now will be to translate classroom and leadership training into stronger command structures and improved performance in the field.
