Somalia Embassy in Nairobi Supports Pan-African Architecture and Urban Resilience Biennale
GOOBJOOOG NEWS | NAIROBI: The Somali Embassy in Nairobi has backed the inaugural Pan-African Biennale on architecture and urban resilience, highlighting Somalia’s reconstruction experience as part of wider African discussions on the future of cities.
Held in Nairobi under the theme “Shifting the Center: From Fragility to Resilience,” the Biennale brings together architects, urban planners, designers and other professionals from across Africa to examine how cities can respond to rapid urbanisation, climate pressures, fragile infrastructure and other challenges.
The Embassy said its participation reflects the links between urban development, identity, resilience and reconstruction, areas that remain central to Somalia’s efforts to rebuild cities and communities after decades of conflict.
It also congratulated Omar Degan, the Biennale’s founder and director, and the organising team for creating a platform centred on African expertise and locally driven approaches to urban development.
AFRICAN SOLUTIONS
The Biennale brings together perspectives from all 54 African countries, creating a continental forum for examining how African cities can develop solutions suited to their own social, environmental and economic realities.
For Somalia, the Embassy said the initiative provides an opportunity to contribute to continental discussions on reconstruction while highlighting the importance of African-led approaches to developing more resilient and inclusive urban spaces.
The event comes as cities across Africa face growing pressure from population growth, climate-related risks and infrastructure gaps, making urban resilience an increasingly important issue for governments and development partners.
