Somalia Information Ministers Meet to Strengthen Media Coordination and Reforms
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s federal and state information ministers met in Mogadishu on Tuesday to strengthen coordination across the country’s information institutions and discuss proposed reforms to the media sector.
The meeting, chaired by Federal Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism Abdulfatah Qasim Mahmoud, brought together information ministers from the Federal Member States and representatives of the Banadir Regional Administration as part of the second forum of the Somali Media Relations Strategy 2026.
Among the issues discussed was a draft regulation governing the registration and licensing of media organisations, alongside the proposed Film Agency Policy, the Culture Strategy and tourism policy and procedures.
The ministers also discussed efforts to establish more coordinated government messaging, improve information sharing between federal and state authorities and develop joint training programmes for information ministries.
Qasim said the federal government was committed to creating a sustainable framework for cooperation between the federal and state levels, particularly in modernising the media sector, strengthening government communications and developing professional skills.
State ministers and Banadir officials presented their views on regional challenges and proposed measures to improve cooperation and strengthen Somalia’s media sector.
The meeting forms part of the second forum of the Somali Media Relations Strategy 2026, which seeks to strengthen consultation between Somalia’s information institutions and establish a common direction for the country’s media sector.
