Somalia Gains Seat On Global Health-Care Quality Advisory Council

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia has secured representation on an international body focused on improving the quality and safety of health-care services, following the election of the head of the country’s National Health Insurance Authority to a senior advisory council.

Dr Abdirisaq Yusuf Ahmed Jalaludin, manager of Somalia’s National Health Insurance Authority, was elected as a full member of the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua) Advisory Council during the organisation’s 42nd international conference in Dublin, Ireland.

He will serve a five-year term representing the Middle East and Africa region, giving Somalia a place in international discussions on health-care quality, patient safety and the development of stronger health systems.

Jalaludin also presented two research papers at the conference, focusing on the quality of health-care delivery, while taking part in discussions among international experts on patient safety, health-care standards and leadership.

The appointment gives Somalia an opportunity to contribute more directly to global discussions on how health systems can improve the quality and safety of care, while bringing regional perspectives into the work of an organisation focused on health-care quality.

ISQua’s international conference brings together health-care professionals, policymakers, researchers and institutions to discuss standards, quality improvement and patient safety.

The representation comes as Somalia continues efforts to strengthen its health system and expand access to organised health-care financing and services.
