Somalia Graduates Fifth Darawiish Cohort to Boost National Security Capacity
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia has completed the training of the fifth cohort of the Somali Darawiish Force, adding newly trained personnel to the country’s security forces as the government seeks to improve operational readiness and strengthen public security.
Interior Security Minister Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail Fartag formally closed the training programme in Mogadishu, urging the graduates to use their training to serve communities, uphold the law and maintain professional standards.
The newly trained personnel have been prepared to undertake security operations, including high-risk missions, while also receiving instruction in weapons handling, military discipline and human rights.
The training also equipped them with basic emergency-response skills to assist security personnel and civilians affected during conflict and other dangerous situations.
The completion of the fifth cohort is part of Somalia’s broader effort to build a more capable and professional national security force.
The emphasis on both operational skills and human rights is intended to ensure that personnel can respond to security threats while maintaining discipline and protecting civilians.
The government has been seeking to strengthen national forces as Somalia assumes greater responsibility for its own security and continues operations against armed groups, particularly Al-Shabaab.
For the newly trained Darawiish personnel, the immediate challenge will be to translate classroom and field training into effective operations on the ground.
Minister Fartag urged the graduates to protect the reputation of the security forces, respect the law and carry out their duties with discipline and responsibility.
The completion of the programme therefore represents not only the graduation of another cohort but an addition to Somalia’s pool of trained security personnel at a time when the country is seeking to improve the capability and professionalism of its national forces.
