Somalia, India Seek Stronger Cooperation In Civil Aviation

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia and India have agreed to deepen technical cooperation in transport and civil aviation, with a focus on aviation safety, airspace management and developing the capacity of Somalia’s aviation institutions.

The agreement followed a meeting in Mogadishu between Omar Ali Afrah, Director General of Somalia’s Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, and India’s Ambassador to Somalia, Dr Adarsh Swaika.

The two officials discussed expanding air connectivity between Somalia and India, with Swaika describing stronger aviation links as a priority for bilateral relations.

Afrah highlighted opportunities for India to support Somalia in areas including air navigation, airport development, aviation safety, modern aviation technology and professional training.

The Somali ministry also called for greater access to Indian aviation expertise and training institutions to help strengthen the skills of Somali civil aviation professionals.

The talks reflect Somalia’s efforts to modernise its aviation sector and strengthen international technical partnerships as the country works to improve the management and regulation of its airspace and expand its aviation infrastructure.

The two sides agreed to work through their respective institutions to translate the discussions into practical measures and closer cooperation in transport and civil aviation.
