Somalia, Partners Agree to Step up Support for Women’s Empowerment
GOOBJOOG NEWS | NEW YORK: Somalia and its international partners have agreed to scale up support for women’s empowerment following a high-level meeting held in New York.
The meeting, convened by Somalia’s Ministry of Women and Human Rights Development on the sidelines of a global women’s conference, brought together government officials and development partners to review progress and set priorities.
Participants pledged to strengthen cooperation in advancing women’s rights, with a focus on tackling gender-based violence, expanding access to opportunities, and increasing women’s participation in decision-making.
Officials said there was broad consensus on the need to accelerate implementation of existing laws and policies, while ensuring sustained international backing for Somalia’s reform agenda.
Somalia’s delegation outlined steps already taken, including legal and policy measures aimed at addressing inequality, and called for continued technical and financial support.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to deepen partnerships and maintain momentum in promoting the role of women in Somalia’s development.
