Somalia Prioritising Healthcare Reform, Deputy PM Says

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Deputy Prime Minister Salah Ahmed Jama has said that the federal government was prioritising investment in healthcare to ensure citizens have access to quality, modern and equitable medical services.

Speaking at the inauguration of a renovated women’s mental health unit at Lansanleeti Hospital in Mogadishu, Jama said improving public services, particularly healthcare, remained a key pillar of the government’s agenda.

“The government is committed to strengthening health services and ensuring all Somalis have access to quality care,” he said.

Jama thanked the Italian government for supporting the rehabilitation of the facility, saying international partnerships play an important role in rebuilding Somalia’s health sector and improving access to specialised care.

He said the government would continue investing in health infrastructure and expanding essential services to meet the needs of the population.

The renovated unit is expected to improve access to mental healthcare for women in Mogadishu, where specialised services remain limited after decades of conflict and underinvestment in the health sector.

Somalia has been working with international partners to rebuild its healthcare system, with authorities increasingly focusing on expanding access to primary healthcare and specialised treatment, including mental health services.
