GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The National Refugee and Internally Displaced Persons Agency has received more than 2,500 medical supplies and medicines intended to support Somali citizens returning to the country.

The supplies were handed over to the agency’s chairman, Liibaan Cabdi Egal, by representatives of the Somali Private Hospitals Association and the Somali Pharmaceutical Traders Association.

Mr Egal said the assistance would help address the healthcare needs of returnees, many of whom may require medical support as they rebuild their lives after returning to Somalia.

He said the contribution also reflected the capacity of Somali institutions and businesses to support vulnerable communities, adding that the country’s people should play a greater role in helping those most in need.

The medicines come at a time when returnees face a range of challenges, including access to basic healthcare and other essential services.

The agency said the supplies would help ease some of those pressures and strengthen medical support for people being assisted to return to the country.

The contribution also highlights the growing role of local businesses and private-sector organisations in supporting humanitarian efforts, particularly as Somalia seeks to strengthen its capacity to assist vulnerable and returning populations.
