Somalia Security Ministers Discuss Stronger Federal-Regional Security Coordination
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s federal and regional security ministers have discussed ways to align security plans and strengthen coordination between different levels of government as the country seeks to build a more unified national security system.
Internal Security Minister Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail Fartaag held talks with his counterparts from South West, Galmudug, Hirshabelle and North East State, focusing on cooperation between federal and regional security institutions and responses to continuing security challenges in parts of the country.
The discussions centred on strengthening coordination, harmonising security strategies and improving joint action among the institutions responsible for internal security, the Ministry of Internal Security said.
The ministry said closer cooperation between the Federal Government and federal member states was essential to building a unified, coordinated and effective security framework.
The talks took place as the National Internal Security Conference continued in Mogadishu, bringing together federal and regional officials to discuss Somalia’s broader security priorities.
The meeting underlined a central challenge in Somalia’s security sector: ensuring that security planning and responses are coordinated across federal and regional administrations.
Calls have been made for stronger cooperation as Somalia works to develop sustainable national security institutions and address threats affecting different parts of the country.
The Ministry of Internal Security said efforts would continue to strengthen consultation and coordination between the federal government and federal member states, with the aim of developing a more coherent national approach to internal security.
