Somalia Seeks Closer Cooperation With Morocco on Regional Issues

GOOBJOOG NEWS | NEW YORK: Somalia and Morocco have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation and coordinate more closely on regional and multilateral issues during talks between their foreign ministers in New York.

Somali Foreign Minister Abdisalam Ali met Morocco’s Foreign Minister for Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The two ministers reviewed the state of relations between Somalia and Morocco and discussed ways to expand cooperation between their governments, according to Somalia’s Foreign Ministry.

They also discussed the importance of coordinating their positions on regional and multilateral issues, particularly matters where the two countries share interests and opportunities for cooperation.

The talks form part of Somalia’s diplomatic engagements during the UN General Assembly, where Somali officials are holding a series of bilateral meetings with counterparts from around the world.

The engagement with Morocco comes as Somalia seeks to broaden diplomatic partnerships and strengthen cooperation with African countries on regional and international issues.
