Somalia Seeks Stronger Diplomatic and Economic Ties with Arab Countries
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal government of Somalia President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has called for stronger diplomatic relations and expanded cooperation with Arab countries, highlighting the importance of regional stability and closer partnerships on issues of mutual interest.
The president made the remarks during a meeting with Arab ambassadors accredited to Somalia in Mogadishu, where discussions focused on strengthening political ties, expanding cooperation and reviewing recent developments in the country.
The talks also addressed the importance of maintaining peace and stability across the region, with both sides emphasising the need for closer coordination in responding to shared challenges.
President Mohamud said Somalia was committed to deepening its longstanding relations with Arab nations and exploring new opportunities for cooperation in areas of common interest.
Somalia maintains close political, economic and cultural ties with the Arab world and is a member of the Arab League. Its geographical position along the Gulf of Aden, near the Red Sea and major international shipping routes, makes regional security and maritime stability particularly important to its economic and strategic interests.
Arab countries have played significant roles in Somalia’s diplomatic engagement, humanitarian assistance, infrastructure development and economic relations, while several Gulf states remain important destinations for Somali livestock exports and sources of investment.
The meeting comes as Mogadishu seeks to broaden its international partnerships and strengthen diplomatic support for its security, development and economic priorities.
Somalia has also increasingly emphasised the connection between stability in the Horn of Africa and security across the Red Sea and Gulf region, where developments can affect trade, maritime transport and regional economic activity.
The presidency did not announce any new agreements or specific commitments arising from the meeting, but said the discussions formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen Somalia’s relations with Arab countries at regional and international levels.
