GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The federal government of Somalia is reviewing challenges facing merit-based recruitment in the civil service as part of efforts to improve transparency, fairness and accountability in public-sector employment.

Labour and Social Affairs Minister Prof. Salim Alio Ibro on Sunday opened a workshop to validate a study examining barriers and resistance to recruiting federal civil servants based on qualifications, skills and competence.

The workshop brings together officials and experts involved in civil service administration to review the study’s findings, validate its conclusions and propose measures to strengthen recruitment procedures across government institutions.

The study aims to identify obstacles to merit-based hiring and develop recommendations to ensure equal access to employment opportunities while improving the quality of public services.

The ministry said it remained committed to strengthening civil service management, with an emphasis on transparent recruitment and the selection of candidates based on their professional qualifications and abilities.

The review comes amid broader efforts to strengthen public administration in Somalia, where effective recruitment systems are important for building a professional civil service and improving government service delivery.
