GOOBJOOG NEWS | BELGRADE: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić have agreed to strengthen cooperation between their countries in security, the economy and investment following talks in Belgrade.

The meeting, held on the sidelines of a high-level gathering marking the 65th anniversary of the first Non-Aligned Movement conference, focused on the longstanding relationship between Somalia and Serbia and ways of translating it into broader practical cooperation.

President Mohamud was accompanied by Foreign Minister Abdisalam Abdi Ali during the discussions with the Serbian leader.

Security was among the key areas discussed, alongside efforts to expand economic and investment cooperation, reflecting the growing scope of relations between Mogadishu and Belgrade.

The talks build on a series of high-level engagements between the two countries as Somalia seeks to broaden its international partnerships and attract investment to support economic growth and development.

Somalia and Serbia also share longstanding historical ties through the Non-Aligned Movement. Somalia was among the countries that participated in the movement’s first conference in Belgrade in 1961.

The two presidents’ meeting came as President Mohamud attended the commemorative gathering in the Serbian capital, where he reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to multilateral cooperation and strengthening its partnerships with countries around the world.

The discussions are expected to provide a basis for closer cooperation between the two governments, particularly in the security, economic and investment sectors identified during the talks.
