Somalia Strategic Communication Forum 2026 Opens in Mogadishu
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia is hosting a two-day national forum on strategic communications in Mogadishu, bringing together government officials, media leaders, journalists, civil society groups, diplomats and development partners to discuss the future of the country’s media sector.
The Strategic Communications Forum 2026, will focus on how Somalia can adapt its media and public communications to a rapidly changing digital environment.
The forum will examine the future direction of Somali media, the relationship between government institutions and the public, and the growing influence of social media and artificial intelligence (AI) on how information is produced and consumed.
Participants are also expected to discuss the spread of misinformation and disinformation, as well as possible approaches to improving public access to reliable information.
The forum’s theme, “Shaping Somalia’s Media Future in the Digital Era,” reflects the growing importance of digital platforms in Somalia’s information landscape.
Social media has become an increasingly important source of news and public debate, while new technologies are creating opportunities for media organisations to reach wider audiences and produce content more efficiently.
At the same time, the rapid spread of unverified information presents challenges for journalists, government institutions and the public.
The forum will provide a platform for participants to exchange experiences and discuss practical responses to these challenges, while considering the role of media in public awareness, governance and national development.
The event is being held for the second consecutive year and is expected to bring together stakeholders from Somalia’s media, government and development sectors, as well as international partners.
Discussions over the two days are expected to shape proposals on strengthening the country’s communications environment and preparing Somali media for the opportunities and challenges created by the digital transformation.
